For every time you eat this bread and drink this cup, you are announcing the Lord’s death until he comes again. 1 Corinthians 11:26
TIPS & SCRIPTS for COMMUNION MEDITATION
TIPS & SCRIPTS for COMMUNION MEDITATION
Leading a communion meditation is a humbling act of service to our Lord that draws us into deep and authentic worship. The aim of a communion meditation is to draw those partaking into a contemplative spirit of reflection and gratitude for the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Whenever possible let your words be few and allow God’s word to be the words remembered.
Four Tips For a Successful Communion Meditation:
- Plan for 2 minutes. 1 minute to read the passage and connect to the cross, 1 minute to pray. Pray over Scripture you select during the week.
- Read from your Bible vs. electronic device. One Scripture reference is given below. Google “Communion Meditations” & find many more.
- Pray beginning with a moment of silence. Pray over the elements and thanksgiving for forgiveness of sins. and
- Close with a hymn.
Matthew 26:26-30 While they were eating, Jesus took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying, “Take and eat; this is my body.” Then he took the cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you. This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins. I tell you, I will not drink from this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father’s kingdom.” When they had sung a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives.

Blest Be the Tie that Binds

COMMUNION MEDITATION #1-6
When my grandpa was in LTC, I remember his pastor came with communion on Good Friday. Pastor Doy Jones touched the elements to my grandfather’s feeble lips, shared Scripture and prayed with Grandpa. Grandpa died two days later on Easter Sunday. Priceless memory.
My mother-in-law is in Long Term Care. Before COVID, different members of her church would visit every Sunday afternoon, providing the elements, Scripture, and prayer. Priceless.
These acts of obedience and love for those who cannot get to church need to be a part of who Koinonia Senior Care is. Communion should be central to who we are and what we do as we visit in the homes of our seniors.

Song sidenote: An orphan at the age of twelve, John Fawcett (b. Lidget Green, Yorkshire, England, 1740; d. Hebden Bridge, Yorkshire, 1817) became apprenticed to a tailor and was largely self-educated. He was converted by the preaching of George Whitefield at the age of 16 and began preaching soon thereafter. In 1765 Fawcett was called to a small, poor, Baptist country church in Wainsgate, Yorkshire. Seven years later he received a call from the large and influential Church in London. Fawcett accepted the call. The day of departure came, and his family’s belongings were loaded on carts, but the distraught congregation begged him to stay. The farewell sermon was preached when love and tears prevailed, and Dr. Fawcett sacrificed the attraction of a London pulpit to the affection of his poor but devoted flock. Fawcett continued to serve in Wainsgate and in the nearby village for the remainder of his active ministry.
COMMUNION MEDITATION #2
9 “I have loved you even as the Father has loved me. Remain in my love. 10 When you obey my commandments, you remain in my love, just as I obey my Father’s commandments and remain in his love. 11 I have told you these things so that you will be filled with my joy. Yes, your joy will overflow! 12 This is my commandment: Love each other in the same way I have loved you. 13 There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. 14 You are my friends if you do what I command. Greater love hath no man than this: to lay down one’s life for his friends. You are my friends if you do what I command.
Lord, how can we thank You enough for Your sacrifice? Do not let us take communion for granted today but let us realize the greatness of Your gift – the greatness of Your love. Amen.
COMMUNION MEDITATION #3
COMMUNION – is an opportunity of reflection about who Christ is and how He restored us into a right relationship with God. John 3:16
May we remember – His body and His blood, broken and bled for us, sinners made new.
1 Corinthians 11:23-26
23 For I received from the Lord what I also passed on to you: The Lord Jesus, on the night he was betrayed, took bread, 24 and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, “This is my body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of me.” 25 In the same way, after supper he took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood; do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me.” 26 For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes.
May we rejoice – with thanksgiving in the HOPE, ANTICIPATION, and JOY of eternal life with Christ! Thank You, Jesus! There was a gap between us and God and YOU only bridged the gap.
May we celebrate what Christ has done – with song and obedience.

COMMUNION MEDITATION #4
One of Jesus’ great I AM statements:
35 Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty. 36 But as I told you, you have seen me and still you do not believe. 37 All those the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never drive away. 38 For I have come down from heaven not to do my will but to do the will of him who sent me. 39 And this is the will of him who sent me, that I shall lose none of all those he has given me, but raise them up at the last day. 40 For my
Father’s will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day.” Let us take the bread together.
27 Then he took a cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you. 28 This is my blood of the[b] covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins. 29 I tell you, I will not drink from this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father’s kingdom.” Let us take the drink together.
30 When they had sung a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives. Let us sing together! Blest be the tie that binds our hearts in Christian love. The fellowship of kindred minds is like to that above.
COMMUNION IDEA #5
Communion is an intimate time with our Lord, filled with emotions and REMEMBERING.
I’m humbled that we are invited to partake of the Bread and the Cup because of God’s love for the us. Jn 3:16
I’m saddened that my sins required Jesus to endure such pain on my behalf. But in doing so, He made the way for me to have an eternal relationship with God. John 14:6
I’m celebrating that Jesus didn’t stay dead, but defeated death and is in Heaven with God our Father.
I’m thankful for the gift of the Holy Spirit that lives within me, to convict, comfort, and guide me daily. John 14:15-17
I’m partaking the Bread and the Cup today, with you, in remembrance. Jesus said, “As often as ye eat this bread and drink this cup, remember me.” (PRAY & PARTAKE of both elements) In remembrance…There are many ways to remember the love of Jesus. One of my favorite ways is to picture the resurrected Lord sitting on the shore of Galilee, cooking breakfast for the disciples who were rowing to shore after a night of fishing. Imagine being there with the disciples that morning and having the Son of God, our risen Savior, the True Bread of Heaven, making breakfast for you.
Father, thank You for sending Your Son, Jesus, on our behalf. May we live in a spirit of remembrance and celebration that brings us into a more intimate relationship with You along the shores of life.
COMMUNION MEDITATION #6
One of Jesus’ great I AM statements:
11 “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd gives His life for the sheep.” John 10:11
Jesus never said he was a priest, preacher, clergyman, bishop, or elder, but THE good shepherd who takes care of His sheep, to the point of giving His life. That is what Jesus did for us on the cross and that is what we remember with communion.
Father, we are helpless in our own walk in the Christian world as sheep are without a shepherd. We need a shepherd who calls us by name, who knows us, who protects us, who leads us because He loves us and gave His very life for us.
We take these elements today, remembering Your body which was broken for us and Your blood which was shed for the forgiveness of our sins…
Let’s remember Psalm 23 as we say it together.
1The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not [a]want.
2 He makes me to lie down in [b]green pastures; He leads me beside the [c]still waters.
3He restores my soul;
He leads me in the paths of righteousness For His name’s sake.
4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil;
For You are with me;
Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.
5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; My cup runs over.
6Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
All the days of my life;
And I will [d]dwell in the house of the LORD
