Koinonia Senior Care

Enriching the lives of homebound seniors and inviting our community to join us.

And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the day.

 Hebrews 10:24-25

Who We Are

Koinonia (coin-oh-knee-uh) means fellowship. Koinonia Senior Care Inc. believes that the value of Christian fellowship is a crucial component in our CARE ministry, enriching the social, spiritual and significance needs of those we serve. A bond begins to deepen and grow beyond the external services, to the heart and soul. Not all of our clients share our faith, but they know up front that KSC is built on a Judeo-Christian foundation – a calling – to serve others in the name of Jesus, an extension of who we are as Christians, and why we do what we do.

At Koinonia Senior Care we believe that the family is the first source of assistance. However, studies and experience have highlighted the physical toll caregiving puts on the primary caregiver. They need others to walk through this season of life with them. We serve alongside the family and church to provide encouragement, respite, and resources. We also assist those who have uninvolved or long-distance families by providing companionship they can trust and turn to for their non-medical CARE needs.

Mission & Motto

KSC’s MISSION is to enrich the lives of homebound seniors and their caregivers, wherever they call home, and inviting our community to join us in meeting their social, spiritual, and significance needs.

KSC’s MOTTO is to captivate our community with the character of Christ through compassionate CARE. (maybe making care something to click to the acronym)

FAQs

What is Koinonia?

Koinonia (coin-oh-knee-uh) means Christian fellowship. Koinonia Senior Care Inc. believes that the value of Christian fellowship is a crucial component in a CARE ministry. There is a bond between people of faith.  Koinonia caregiving goes beyond the external services, to the heart and soul. Not all of our clients share our faith, but they know up front that KSC is built on a Judeo-Christian foundation – a calling – to serve others in the name of Jesus and to treat others as we would want to be treated. Koinonia – Christian fellowship that brings joy, smiles, laughter, and activities that make even the family want to stay and join in!

A powerful example of what koinonia should look like can be found in a study of the phrase “one another” in the Bible. Scripture commands us to be devoted to one another (Romans 12:10), honor one another (Romans 12:10), live in harmony with one another (Romans 12:161 Peter 3:8), accept one another (Romans 15:7), serve one another in love (Galatians 5:13), be kind and compassionate to one another (Ephesians 4:32), admonish one another (Colossians 3:16), encourage one another (1 Thessalonians 5:11Hebrews 3:13), spur one another on toward love and good deeds (Hebrews 10:24), offer hospitality (1 Peter 4:9), and love one another (1 Peter 1:221 John 3:113:234:74:11-12). That is what true biblical koinonia should look like.

Who do you serve?

We serve compromised seniors and the elderly living primarily on the west side of Wichita at the present time. We are looking to expand the territory as requests and Enrichment Team members increase.

We serve the family by offering RESPITE. We do not take the place of family and what they should be doing for their family, nor do we take the place of the church and their outreach to the home-bound, but we do come alongside the family and church to support and offer enrichment activities, encouragement, and resources through this season.

We serve the church and community by offering to coordinate a regular plan of visits that the family and/or church can maintain.  We don’t want to rob them of the blessing of serving.  KSC then fills in with our Enrichment Team staff, which is private pay. Churches and friends can also provide a scholarship for KSC enrichment services.

We serve the community and congregations by offering monthly support to equip those providing enrichment so they feel better prepared to reach out and serve their senior friends with fresh ideas and appropriate content.

What kind of Christian CARE is provided?

Our Enrichment Team provides:

C hristian fellowship could include spiritual encouragement with devotions and hymn singing, prayer, communion, and taking them to church or a special event at a church. By getting out with other people, the need for community and desire for corporate worship is met.

A ctivities of interest to the senior, along with zoo visits and eventually a monthly Connection Center

R espite care so the caregiver can relax and recharge for a few hours in the day or occasional overnight stays.

E quipping those who enrich the lives of seniors with fresh ideas and appropriate content so they feel more confident as they serve.

How does KSC find their Enrichment Team?

Koinonia Senior Care speaks to faith-based organizations, churches and businesses to remind the people of the value and honor God places on the elderly and how each of us can serve compromised seniors and the elderly with our time and our unique blend of God-given talents and interests.  We educate, equip, empower, and inspire the lives of those compassionate individuals who want to provide Christian CARE in their church, family, and their community.   From these core groups of individuals there are those who desire to provide beyond volunteering and become a part of our private pay  Enrichment Team.

How is Koinonia Senior Care funded?

KSC is a ministry largely funded by donations from those who believe in what we do or have been touched by our compassionate Enrichment Team.  We conduct fundraisers, seek grants, and collect private pay charges for many of our services.

The mind-set of Koinonia Senior Care, Inc. was founded upon ministry, not money.   We serve out of compassion, not profit.  Our purpose and goals were never ones of financial freedom at the expense of the elderly.  We do need money to do the work of the Lord and to do it with excellence, but never with  financial gain being our goal. Our Enrichment Team put their heart and soul into caregiving, knowing that their ultimate pay is “out of this world!”

Where are you located?

In order to be good stewards of our resources, our office is in our home until we need to expand. We meet with seniors and the elderly in their home. We meet with volunteers and employees in our home, in churches and restaurants.  Koinonia Senior Care’s mailing address is 13303 W. Maple, Suite 139, PMB #128, Wichita, KS  67235.
